Conflict, peace and us
Ever look at pictures of war on the TV and feel totally helpless? Wonder what you could ever do to make a difference? Come to our peacemaking event with the peace charity CHIPS and threads to find out how you could become an agent of peace.
Come and join CHIPS, Rhythms and threads on for an evening together exploring how we can be agents of peace at a local, national and international level. We will be hearing from three inspiring speakers who are actively seeking peace in the world in different ways. There will be time for guided discussion and activities helping you to explore issues with others attending the event, and also an opportunity to put your points to the speakers, so come with questions and join us as we explore how we can engage in conflict and be peacemakers in the world.
The event will be on Wednesday, 10 June 7-9.30pm at The Island Queen, 87 Noel Road, London, N1 8HD. The nearest tube is Angel on the Northern line. More directions can be found here. Tickets are free but you you need to sign up either below or via Get Invited.
Paul Rose is Director of CHIPS (Christian International Peace Service). Drawing on CHIPS’ peacemaking methodology and their experience in Brixton, Paul will explore how to identify and engage in conflict in our own neighbourhoods. (Read Paul’s most recent threads article on living out peace in your neighbourhood.)
Andy Walton works for the Centre for Theology & Community, and will be talking about his time in Palestine and Israel as a human rights observer.
Lisa Whitten is currently working on her Masters in Comparative Ethnic Conflict at Queen’s University, Belfast, having worked previously for an MP. She will be talking to us about how we can can practically and personally engage with current international conflict by looking at the Democratic Republic of Congo and the refugee crisis in the Mediterranean.
We would love it if you stayed after the event for drinks and to continue conversations.
